A photographic portrait of almost every major figure in the world of 20th century music, from composers such as Igor Stravinsky and Benjamin Britten to performers who include Yehudi Menuhin and Jacqueline du Pre and conductors such as Leopold Stokowski and Claudio Abbado. Laelia Goehr has been photographing musicians during rehearsals since 1965 and the book includes 200 photographs. To accompany these photographs, John Amis of "My Music" has written a vignette of each musician detailing their influences and achievements, as well as giving some trade secrets. Laelia Goehr has had work published in "Picture Post" and "Lilliput" and her photographs have been exhibited in the Royal Festival Hall and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Also by John Amis, his autobiography: "Amiscellany".
