Heaven's Gate is the eighth collection for Seren by one of Wales' best poets.

Formally astute, subtle and persuasive in tone, evincing enviable clarity and insight, these poems address subject matter as diverse as forest fires in California, an eclipse recalled from childhood, and a World War One battlefield.

Most characteristic are his deceptively casual pieces where the universal quietly insinuates itself, as in the poem where a stowaway falling from a passenger jet becomes, for a brief moment, an unlikely 'Icarus'. Also of note here are a witty group of poems set on the golf course and a skilful sonnet sequence of letters to a son studying in the USA.

Tony Curtis is Professor of Poetry at the University of Glamorgan where he directs an MPhil in Writing. He has published 26 books, including nine poetry collections. A selection of his poetry has recently been translated and published in Armenia. He is also the editor of several anthologies including After the First Death, a volume of war writing (2007).
