Inside you will find an assortment of wonderful things - words, pictures, advice, tidbits, morsels, shenanigans, and, in some copies, four hundred dollars cash. So you might want to buy a few. I don't have enough room on this back cover to tell you all the reasons why you should buy this book, but I can tell you this and it's a guarantee: If you buy it, you will feel better, look better, be happier, grow taller, lose weight, get a promotion at work, have shinier hair, and fall madly, deeply in love. As you probably know, this is normally where authors put nice quotes from fancy people praising their book. I'm a little uncomfortable with that. It feels like a gimmick to get people to buy it and I don't believe in cheap tricks like that. Besides, I know you're way too smart and beautiful to fall for that kind of stuff. Actually, I think you're so wonderful I thought I would use this space to praise you. Yes, that's right. You. I picked up Seriously...I'm Kidding as an audiobook the other week and thought it was safe to listen to it in the car - silly me!

There were several moments last weekend when I was quite glad that, where I was driving, only few people tried to use the same road. Otherwise, it is quite likely that either of the following would have happened: a) accident caused by erratic driving due to bouts of uncontrollable giggles; or b) people thinking I'm crazy - also due to bouts of uncontrollable giggles.

I'm not saying it's the best or funniest book ever, and it certainly has a few elements that are predictable - like, after a few chapters you get the hang of how her humor is structured and there are quite a few self-promoting references to her talk show - but it honestly had me in stitches at times and then balanced it out with some more inspirational points of view.

One aspect that was new to me - and maybe it is because I haven't read many books like this - was that the audiobook was actually addressed to the listener, almost as part of a conversation, which made the listening experience very engaging.

Had it been the print version, I wonder if the references had been adapted to achieve a similar effect with the reader? I have a hunch it might have...

I've become a big Ellen fan. Loved the other book of hers I read (I forget it's name but it was funny, and it was her second book if that helps), love her talk show even though I don't live in America so can't watch it (boo!) so I couldn't wait to read Seriously... I'm Kidding. It was a fun read. A bit all over the place, but that's Ellen's style. A quick read and funny in parts and it just had all the warmth you expect from Ellen. I totally think she should try writing a fiction novel, that would be awesome.
