Desperate Girls is the start of a new series by Griffin and centers around a private security firm. Security guard/body guard romances are really hit or miss for me; honestly, they are mostly miss. But, if anyone could make it a hit, it's Griffin!
The heroine, Brynn is brilliant. She is a fierce attorney who has been on both sides of the aisle. Currently, she is working as a defense attorney and is getting ready to begin a huge case where she represents an innocent teenager who is charged with murder. As if that isn't stressful enough, a man she helped put in prison years ago has escaped and it appears he is out for revenge.
Erik works for Wolfe and the security firm is hired to keep Brynn and her co-council safe from the killer. His pedigree is pretty impressive: Marines and Secret Service. He has never fallen for a client. Enter Brynn. She wants no part in this security detail and thinks her boss is totally overreacting. She pushes Erik and the team at every turn because she simply won't hide-she cares too much about her current client to bail on him now.
In this story, you know who the bad guy is and why he is on the hunt. What creates the suspense is when he will strike and how. Knowing who the killer is didn't make the story less suspenseful in any way! There was a twist at the end that I didn't see coming either and that is unusual. Brynn and Erik have lots of sexual tension building up throughout the story and honestly, you aren't sure how they could make a relationship work.
Desperate Girls will appeal to romantic suspense fans for sure. Lots of action, lots of characters, lots of chemistry! I am excited to see where Griffin takes this series because it has a lot of potential
Side Note: I still can't figure out what the title means. Who are the Desperate Girls? What are the Desperate Girls? If you have read the book and figured it out, let me know!
