When Joe and Christy Davenport buy a house on Lime Park Road for less than market rate, they congratulate themselves on being in the right place at the right time. The fact that the current owners are in a terrific hurry to leave is a cause for celebration, not concern. Collecting the keys, they speculate on the Frasers' reasons for the quick sale - divorce, debt, difficulties with schools? - and agree it is nothing that could ever defeat them. But soon Christy finds herself out of work and in the house, all day every day. She develops a fascination with her mysterious next-door neighbour, Nick Whalen, a divorced man in his early forties. Christy does not know whether to be attracted or unnerved. Then she uncovers evidence of a police charge brought by one neighbour against another, information not disclosed during the purchase of the house. She hasn't thought about the Frasers for months, but now, convinced she knows the real reason for their hasty departure, she must find them again and establish the truth.
