I remember hearing Katie McGarry talk about this book at a con, and knew I would want to read it. I love that McGarry gives me a window into a world that is a somewhat normal, but a little grittier than I am accustomed to. This is a story of the prodigal MC princess, Emily, (unbeknownst to her) and an aspiring MC, Oz, who had grown up in that world. I really liked how McGarry presented the two worlds. She showed that they were different, at first glance, but underneath, it really was about family, love, and respect. The romance between Emily and Oz was very sweet, and unfolded slowly. As their feelings evolved, so did Emily and Oz. In the end, they both realized that what they had changed, and so did what they wanted. There were a lot of great characters in the story, and yeah!, the parents were actually "present" in the youngsters lives. There were quite a few really touching moments, and a few scary ones too, that combined with all the swoony, sexy stuff left me throughly entertained. I am very much looking forward to getting to know more of the Snowflake crew.

I didn't really had expectations for this story but I did expected lots of violence since the description kind of makes it sound that way, at least to me. It was so much more than that. The motorcycle club, Reign of Terror, was more of a family than anything. Their integration in the story, blood-related and not, was such an important thing that added so much more. I loved all of the characters. Olivia, who's Emily's grandmother was the best. She was amazing, everyone respected her and she was such a strong woman that in my eyes, she was bad ass. In a way, she kept the club grounded. My emotions were going on a roller coaster ride since at times I would be smiling and having fun and then all of a sudden BAM, I would be a mess.
The club is a brotherhood, a family. It means belonging to something bigger than yourself.
Emily and Oz's relationship was rocky at the beginning due to trust issues coming from Emily's part, which is understandable since her mom led her to believe something her whole life and she's now starting to see it was all a lie. Still, she refuses to believe her mom would lie to her so she keeps her distance from the club, especially Oz and her father. But once she started to let her guard down, their romance was fun and cute and beautiful and I was so rooting for them!!
I will her to look away, but she doesn’t and I’m secretly proud the girl won’t back down. I hate this connection. I crave this connection. She’s continually messing with my head.
Another character I loved was Emily's father, Eli. You could really see he was trying to prove to his daughter he hadn't abandoned her, that all the decisions he made were for her safety. I'm glad Emily got to see that as the story progressed and ultimately see her relationship with her father grow.
The ending surprised me. I was shocked by the plot twist I did not see coming and then something happened that had me on the verge of tears and I couldn't deal with life!
Love the other people in your lives as if this was your last day because you never know if it is.
Overall, this book was brilliant, emotional and fun. As I had mentioned above, I hadn't picked this book up because it is super long! I was very intimated by it but I flew through this book. In a blink of an eye, I was already halfway through and deeply enjoying it! It was the perfect read to kick off 2016!

1. I'm madly in love with this book. It was perfect in every way. I usually hate contemporary books because there's just not enough action for me but the whole concept of the motorcycle gangs made it full of action.
2. I loved all the characters. That all had completely different personalities and we're all interesting in their own way. Lots of mystery followed them as well.
3. I was a little disappointed with how fast the romance was but to be fair they spent a lot of time together so it was totally unreasonable.
4. I'm excited and nervous for the next book because it's not following the same characters. Please be just as amazing!

This is easily my least favorite book by McGarry.
I'm a huge fan of this author - read all her books, and loved them all. She's got that rare ability to just suck me in until suddenly it's 4a.m. and the book is finished. And she does it even when the book is a huge, intimidating hardcover. Just like that.
So I'm not saying this lightly - Nowhere but Here was, to me, severely lacking. Did I still finish it in more or less one sitting? Yes. Did I get any of the feeels? Nope.
Because this is such a loved author, I'm going to go on a rant here for a sec. Again, it doesn't mean I didn't like the book. It was just not on par with McGarry's other works for me. I still loved Oz (after I got over how judgmental he was to Emily at first). I still liked Emily. I loved the family dynamics between the club members, even if I didn't like much else revolving the club. But. BUT.
Nowhere but Here sins in one of my biggest story peeves - the entirety of it is built on a truth no one is willing to share.Everyone but our mc, Emily, knows it. But no one will just own to it and tell it straight. Instead, they play this game of hide-and-seek with the truth. Everything, and I do mean everything, including the disastrous results, could have been avoided if even one person decided to share the whole truth with her.
Gah. The book tried very hard to convince me everybody had excellent reasons for keeping num. I didn't buy it for a sec.
Combined with this is the character of Olivia. Also known as The Catalyst. I. Didn't. Like. Her. I hate people who are soblatant about the fact they think they know what's best for others, who basically dismiss their entire plans for life as wrong. And combine that with riddle-giving and vague info dumping and you get a major no-no from me.
Speaking of things I didn't buy? The whole surroundings and environment. The setting for this novel was so over-the-top that it was all a little ridiculous to me. Not to mention this first book is supposed to make me fall in love with this club. Instead, I loved the people, hated every time "proper" club activities came up. I was downright disgusted by it. Pouring drinks on your kids as celebration? Walls of bras and underwear gloriously displayed? Dens smelly and sticky from god-knows-what? Yes, very captivating.
Not.
Even the secret was way over-the-top and the whole climax? It was so flat to me. They didn't even feel like real characters. Not only was I not excited, nervous or anxious, I was exasperated. It feels like McGarry was trying too hard to go at dangerous and edgy and whatnot while not really understanding the whole scene at all.
Final point of aggravation? The relationship. McGarry is usually so good with making the feels real and with having me 100% believe the love. I didn't here. It was like, oh, yes, they're finally talking and becoming fri--WHAM WE'RE IN LOVE.

Being a romance centered around a motorcycle club, I was expecting something exciting and dangerous. Nowhere But Here is actually just boring and melodramatic. Emily heads off to her mother's hometown for her grandmother's wake, but it turns out that the old woman isn't dead yet. She's just preparing for the end, and she wants to get to know her only granddaughter. Then some members from the rival biker gang show up at the motel where Emily's family is staying, and now she needs their protection for the summer until things are under control. It also gives Emily an opportunity to find out what her mother has been hiding from her.
Nowhere But Here has some great stuff going for it but it never came together for me. The whole rival gang thing was very much in the background, Emily was annoying, her grandmother was even more annoying, and I was just bored. What really held my attention was what her family is keeping from her. No one is willing to say anything, and they're acting like it's the worst thing in the universe. But then it comes out, and I was like oh. Then I figured out one of the following reveals, and when that was I confirmed, I was like oh. It really wasn't as big of a deal as everyone was making it out to be.
I really did not like Emily. She was quite frustrating to me. After the rival gang appears at her motel and she gets rescued, her stepfather manages to convince her that she's not in danger. He claims that motorcycle clubs are like a Sci-Fi convention for tough men, and all of this is just a game. She believes him, despite everyone who is actually involved telling her otherwise. Wouldn't they know better than her stepfather who is not involved in any way, shape, or form? Then Emily gets upset that she's been lied to when the truth comes out. She's known since the beginning that she's been lied to, and knows what she's been lied to about, she just doesn't know the real story. So why is she crying that everyone is a liar near the end?! She knew that already! Oh, and Emily "detests dogs." She says this, and tells this adorable creature who just wants to comfort her that she hates him. Well, I hate you, Emily.
As for Emily's grandmother, Olivia, I could not stand her. The whole club worships this woman, but she is mean! Yes, she's dying and everyone is sad about that, but come on! She is horrible to everyone, and she essentially tries to hold Emily hostage just because she wants her there. Emily doesn't know these people! She doesn't have to stay with you just because you lock the doors and won't let her stepfather take her home! Then she's all cryptic for the entire book, leaving Emily little hints and clues about her past instead of just telling her! Not to mention that Oz (the love interest and other POV) is initially pissed at Emily for not spending time with Olivia. Emily had never met her before! And the first time she does, the woman scares the crap out of her and won't let her leave! Why do they all love this woman so much?!
Nowhere But Here didn't really do it for me. I have no opinion on the actual romance, because it was just kind of there, caught under the chaos of everything else I was annoyed by. Nothing happens for like 400 pages, and then when it does, it's over in like ten pages, and then it's back to Olivia.

Reseña Completa: El Extraño Gato del Cuento
La publicidad del libro dice que Nowhere But Here es la unión entre Sons of Anarchy y West Side Story. Lástima que no vi ni la serie ni la película. Pero sé quién es Charlie Hunnam y este gatito ha visto cuanto gif set o vídeos interesantes de Hunnam en la serie. ¿Emocionada por la historia a pesar de no haber visto ninguno de los shows? Obvio que sí, Katie McGarry sabe entretener muy bien.
Al principio pensé que la historia entre Oz y Emily se desarrollaría de manera diferente, esperaba un libro típico (chico-malo, chica-buena, drama, amor, final) pero hay algo en la forma en que Katie trata sus historias que me hacen sentir que estoy leyendo algo completamente nuevo y no debo dejar de leer. Y es que McGarry tiene un gran cuidado en los personajes secundarios, no son solo ruido de fondo hechos para que nuestros protagonistas consigan el amor y uno como lector tenga un par de horas de lectura simple.
Y a veces tener personajes secundarios encantadores tiene su lado positivo porque esperas que le den su libro. Pero también puede tener un lado malo, como cuando te encariñas con ellos por lo perfectos de sus defectos y luego llegas a enterarte que tienen más drama en sus vidas que los protagonistas mismos.
Y, también, no creo haber sido capaz de leer un libro sobre los padres de Emily. ¿Has leído algún libro de Madeline Sheehan? Quizá no tan dramático y oscuro como sus libros pero sin duda el pasado de estos señores es algo en lo que no quiero pensar. ¿Por qué? Porque, cuando lees un libro con romance, y llega el final feliz, cierras el libro y vives con la certeza que ellos son felices para siempre. En la vida real no pasa eso, no hay un fin y corrida de créditos. Exactamente eso hace Katie McGarry en sus libros ¡hace que te des cuenta de la realidad! ¡Y la realidad no es bonita!
MI ÚNICO PROBLEMA
¿viste que le puse 4 de 5 estrellas? Mi problema es uno que no puedo decir porque es un mega spoiler :D El horror, la verdad. Voy a tratar de explicarlo lo menos spoileador posible, si lees el libro, quizá me entiendas.
Mi único problema es una combinación entre la falta de comunicación que vemos en Romeo y Julieta más una especie de doble moral. Ya te confundí, ya lo sé. Lo que pasa es que lo que se aplica para algunos de los personajes de Nowhere But Here, ese especie de duda/redención, ni siquiera se piensa para otros de los personajes, los cuáles en mi opinión como sí la merecían. Todo eso hizo un poco gracioso lo que nos llevó al final, fue tan shakesperiano (si existe la palabra y se me deja usarla a pesar de no tener autoridad para hacerlo).
