This is the first of two books in this new RoutledgeFalmer series that is directed at new teachers in schools. This volume provides newly qualified teachers with information and advice on matters arising from the classroom, the staffroom and beyond. The content is specifically related to the requirements set down by the Teacher Training Agency (TTA) for the induction year. A wide variety of issues, relevant to newly qualified teachers, are discussed including the practicalities of teaching a class for a whole year, from curriculum planning, organizing the lesson, developing teaching skills, dealing with children's behaviours, assessment and marking, and how to cope when things go wrong. The authors discuss the development of working relationships with colleagues, dealing with school policies, what the staff expect from new teachers, participating in activities, in and out of school.
