This detailed study of the Italian, Russian and German Futurist movements attempts to distinguish the aspects of Futurism which have had a lasting impact on literature. The works of Marinetti, Boccioni, Cangiullo, Carra, Depero and Soffici are analyzed alongside their Russian and German counterparts (Khlebnikov, Kruchenykh, Mayakovsky and Stramm) in order to highlight both the innovative and reactionary sides of the genre. The author argues that Futurist writing greatly influenced modernism and the avant-garde.
