The Stanzas of the Graves or in their Welsh original Englynion y Beddau, (also known as 'The Graves of the Warriors of Britain'), are found in a number of medieval Welsh manuscripts although it is widely believed that the stanzas date back to the ninth century. The earliest and most important collection is in the Black Book of Carmarthen which contains seventy-three stanzas. The Red Book of Hergest contains five stanzas amongst the Llywarch verses of which five were once in the earlier manuscript The White Book of Rhydderch. The Stanzas of the Graves is a groundbreaking new appraisal of the early Welsh texts which re-assesses the topography of the Stanzas and suggests the burial sites of the famous Welsh warriors including Arthur himself. Through the use of a new translation the authors provide an accessible yet scholarly guide to the texts and the characters mentioned within them, for the academic and non-academic reader. In addition the book has an index of personal and place names and a detailed discussion of Arthur's last battle at Camlan.
