While retaining the same basic structure as the first edition, its material and arguments have been made more accessible to undergraduates.;Overall, two chapters have gone, two completely new chapters have been included and four chapters have been wholly revised and reorganised. The two new chapters are the Significance of Financial Deregulation and The Trade Crisis. These replace the previous chapter 1. They provide more detailed explanation of Australia's economic problems in a form suitable for students of politics. The chapter on the Framework of Political Debate has been rewritten to make the themes and arguments clearer. Now, the main theme in the book is the likely effects of economic restructuring upon the political system, the trade-offs required between economic and political systems, and the prospects for democracy.;
