The crisis of confidence in schooling has pushed education to the top of the political agenda in the UK. The crisis has extended to higher education because of the low level of access relative to that of other European countries. There is also the lack of a national organization to promote "education at work" as a way of improving the quality of individual productive lives. Each of these problems is contributing to our present anxiety that the economic and cultural foundations of our society are declining. In this book, the author presents an account of her own education at work. It aims to encourage practitioners to have faith in their own creative powers and to understand education from the point of view of making sense of their own practice, while exercising their critical powers in evaluating the contributions of other thinkers to this understanding.
