Digital badges are online credentials that learners can post on platforms such as email and social media networks to show skills they’ve learned and demonstrated through the completion of badge criteria. Learners earn a badge by demonstrating basic competency in the topic at hand.
DEVELOP and APPLY badges are available. The difference is in who assesses whether the learner gets the badge. A DEVELOP badge means the assessment is auto-graded. An APPLY badge means the assessment requires an external evaluation of artifacts by an instructor or employer.
Badges are available in a range of Skill levels (ie. “Level 1” badge demonstrates base knowledge of the skills outlined.)
Once learners complete the work to earn the badge, they’re guided to accept and share it, to give visibility to the achievement online in a way that’s verifiable.
