Part I focuses on Nikolas Tackett, an expectant father and werewolf. His wife, Constance, dies giving birth to a boy. Nikolas knows that his kind all have a mark on their hands. His son, Keagan, has it. Still grieving, his sister in-law, Sophia is sent to help with the baby. Their personalities clash horribly. Nikolas does what he set out never to do, he feeds on Sophia, thus turning her into a werewolf. Unlike Nikolas, Sophia loves killing. Mayhem ensues.
