Timothy Santos is a Texas Ranger who is deep under cover with his team disguised as a motorcycle gang trying to bring down the head of a rather large drug operation that comes across the boarder from Mexico. When his informant inside goes quiet he has to bring in the local law for help, that could be a problem since the sheriff is his ex-girlfriend.
Why did Santos have to come back into her life was the first thing Rose Renwick thinks when she is rescued by him. Rose was finally moving on and putting Santos behind her and now he is back asking for her help to find his informant before it is to late.
Texas Hold 'Em is equal parts suspense novel and romance. Ms David includes some pretty gripping and sometimes horrifying scenes in her book to really give you a feel for what Santos and Rose are up against with the drug cartels and the very sick people who run them, at the same time we have a second chance romance with both the hero and the heroine being pretty tough.
I enjoyed the story and when reading it with an eye to there will be more books in the series then some of the sub-plots that are born and go no where make much more sense. Being a pretty big mystery buff I figured out Santos deep dark secret early but it is well played through the book. My biggest issue was that the story at times seemed a little choppy but as I said over all it was a fun read with quite the roller coaster of emotions and levels of excitement.
