The series, "A Sense of History" uses a combination of narrative and unusual sources to tell good stories well. It invites teachers and pupils to explore the past together and tap into the lives and feelings of the men and women of the time. It should encourage pupils to make their own judgements based on the evidence they have and give them confidence to debate their own findings, and should provide teachers with a wealth of historical source material for discussion and further study. The structure of "A Sense of History" relates directly to the National Curriculum in England and Wales, but can also be used as part of the new history curriculum in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The series aims to give children continuation throughout their school years, providing material for infants at Key Stage 1, for juniors at Key Stage 2 and for lower secondary pupils at Key Stage 3. Designed for teaching Core Study Unit 2, at Key Stage 2, this teacher's book looks at Tudor and Stuart times, offering a comparative view of both Tudor and Stuart life throughout the period.
Presented in a ring binder file, the teacher's book contains sections on planning the whole school policy for history; staffroom workshops for use on INSET days; resources and approaches; and assessing and recording children's progress. A reference section, photocopiable masters and stories covering each topic are also included.
