An aid to GCSE literature for years 4-5, which offers a gradual approach for students who need to work slowly towards the English and English Literature examinations. The 11 texts are divided into plays, stories and poems. Each genre covers a variety of themes and authors and the inter-relationship between the various genres is stressed throughout. The text is suitable for both individual and group work. The assignments vary in type and level and have been tailored to suit both the genre and subject matter. The poetry section illustrates how a GCSE poetry project can be compiled and also how poetry can stimulate ideas for responses in the novel and play sections. The photographs, reviews, programmes and other materials aim to bring the books alive and to encourage the student to respond personally. Paul Groves is author of "Bangers and Mash", John Griffin is author of two "Knockout" books and Nigel Grimshaw is author of five Longman Study Texts.
