This book has been published to celebrate the reopening of the Kunstkammer, Vienna, after 10 years closure. In December 2012, after 10 years closure for restoration, the Kunstkammer (literally 'chamber of art and wonders') in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, will reopen. Kunstkammer, Vienna is being published for the opening. One of the most important and stunningly beautiful collections of its kind in the world, the Kunstkammer contains a vast collection of objects from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Baroque, collected by a succession of Habsburg Kings and Emperors from Ferdinand I, King of Austria, Hungary and Bohemia, who founded the collection in 1553. Rudolf II greatly increased the collection in his Castle in Prague. Benvenuto Cellini's great Saliera, stolen and then recovered, is one of its many masterpieces.
