"Voice for Life is designed to help you discover what your voice can do, and then strengthen it. It will encourage you to learn about music and look at what it means to be a singer and a member of a choir.
This workbook will help you to practise singing and think about music at home, but you will also work closely with your choir trainer. Together you will discuss which topic to work on next - don't try to complete the whole book on your own in one week! Your choir trainer may want to explain a new topic before you go further through the book, or to talk to you at rehearsals about things you should do on your own. He or she may also want to check that you have understood something before you move on to the next stage.
To make the most of your voice, you need to practise regularly. This workbook contains breathing and singing exercises to use at home. If you practise on your own as well as with your choir, you will quickly improve the strength of your voice. As a singer, your whole body is your musical instrument - you take it to bed, on the bus, in the car, shopping, to parties and even on holiday - so it makes sense to take care of all aspects of it. To help you look after your voice, there are tips on voice care throughout the book.
This workbook contains puzzles and exercises to complete in your own time. You will also be expected to talk to other members of your choir to And the answers to some of the questions. Don't worry about doing this - other choir members expect to be asked for information or advice.
Being in a choir is different from being a solo singer. You are a member of a team. You will learn about being a good team member and making the best contribution you can to your choir."
