One of the key elements of flexible routes to QTS is that they assess individual trainees' prior experience against the 4/98 standards and then identify further training input required by the trainee. This new service to flexible modular training providers delivers a ready-made means of conducting this needs analysis, as well as acting as a guide to producing a portfolio of evidence. This manual is divided into two sections: an introduction describing the QTS Standards and how the audit material may be used, and a question and evidence section. The question and evidence section is divided into 14 themes. Each theme is structured in the same way: firstly, it looks at the group of Standards to which the theme relates, and examples of evidence that trainees might need in order to demonstrate their ability in relation to this group of Standards; this is followed by a set of questions which trainees answer and for which they provide evidence; finally, each theme includes a review form to be completed at review meetings between trainee and tutor as well as a target-setting form.
