Jordanian-Palestinian relations have become hostage to the fate of the troubled Arab-Israeli peace process. This study seeks to liberate the former from the latter by exploring alternative ways of thinking about the future and thereby identifying choices. Four scenarios are envisaged. "Drift" describes an absence of initiative on all sides; the "Functional" scenario is what transpires if a hardline Israeli government has its way; "Separation" is possible if Jordan and Palestine take divergent paths; and "Cooperation" is posited as a way for the two to work together to realize Palestinian statehood as a prelude to closer ties. Since all four scenarios are plausible, it is up to the parties themselves to draw their own conclusions.
