Both the main characters, Miles and Alice, are relatable while retaining a good deal of mystery, much of which is uncovered throughout the novel. The relationship between the two tends to be a little confusing at times, but ultimately left me satisfied. My one complaint is the unrealistic notion that it took the two ten years to "get together," though they've lived side by side in the same small space for the entire duration.
Despite a burst of action in the first pages, Gabriel's Watch begins rather slowly with introductions and backstory, but once it picks up the pace it's ripe with action-packed twists and turns and is complete with an ending that would make Shyamalan proud.
