Tripp was known to those on the ranch as the Horse Whisperer. He had such a way with them - it was fairly amazing!
From the very first page, Her Last Chance Cowboy felt like a well-broken-in pair of boots or a favorite pair of jeans. The inviting and intriguing leading paragraphs drew me in immediately as my interest was piqued.
Glimpses of the elusive Tripp in the earlier books of the Big Heart Ranch series mostly revealed the ranch manager's concern for those in his care. He pretty much always held himself aloof and protected himself from hurt. Well, now I know what caused his wounded heart and the scar on his face. This big-hearted cowboy had a very hard time trusting.
I loved the way that Tripp's heart was melted by five-year-old Clementine from the start. His lack of trust of Hannah and her motives and the way he waffled between letting things be and trying to protect his Big Heart Ranch family showed the side of him that knew how to love deeply. His way with the horses was nothing short of admirable.
Hannah had major trust issues herself. Living mostly on the run until she had reason to believe she might have found family, she was flighty and tended to want to escape at any sign of trouble. Ironically, when she tried that here, it only got her into bigger trouble.
Some favorite things about this book (other than the characters and the great writing):
Tripp in the baby store (and the doctor's office!) His confusion as to the use of some of the items there was pretty funny. And then what he did afterward? Awww!
Hannah with Calamity Jane, the horse. The bond the two developed was beautiful.
The chili cook-off
The grand gesture (and believe me when I say it was needed!)
If you enjoy Western-themed romance, Her Last Chance Cowboy is sure to please.
