In Book I, we meet Nikolas Tackett. He is not a typical colonial man. He was born a werewolf. When his young wife dies giving birth to his son, Keagan, he is forced to allow his meddling sister in-law, Sophia, to assist him. Their relationship is precarious, so Nikolas does the unthinkable. He attacks Sophia, thus passing on the curse. Sophia is bitter, full of hatred, and mayhem ensues.
