Barnaby and His Brittle Bones tells the story of a boy who has brittle bones in his pockets. Barnaby is frustrated because everyone wants him to throw away his bones. And so he takes off, boards a small boat which sinks under the weight of the bones in his pockets. Barnaby's last-minute decision saves his life.

The aim of this book is to move away from emphasizing the obviously painful side of `bones' in order to find some way towards the light. One does not have a choice in keeping or doing away with difficult life challenges, but they can choose other positive aspects of life around them, such as love, kindness, and to fight to live, as Barnaby chooses to fight for his life and swim home. Barnaby, ultimately chooses family and love and not the brittle bones in his pockets.
