New from Landmark this year, the Visitor's Guide to Lanzarote is one of the few guidebooks to deal exclusively with this popular all-year-round island, the sunniest in the Canaries. The British are now the most numerous of the island's tourists, many of them having invested in property for holidays or retirement. Because it is generally known that, like Tenerife, Lanzarote has some impressive extinct (hopefully) volcanoes, many believe that its beaches are black. In fact, most are of clean, golden sand, some of them amongst the finest in Spain, a fact which this book, with its many colour photographs, emphasises. Itinararies from the main tourist centres are fully described with the aid of large - scale maps. Car hire and fuel costs are among the cheapest in Europe, and most visitors hire a vehicle for at laest part of their vacation. However, this book does not neglect those who prefer not to drive, as details of coach excursions and local bus sevices are comprehensive.
