In 1947, 4515 Jewish refugees, including 655 children, from post-holocaust Europe, boarded a ship in Marseilles bound for a new life in Palestine. As it left French waters, British warships followed the ship, finally ramming it near the coast of Palestine. Two were killed and 30 were wounded and this became the start of a long journey that would include internment, a return to France, captivity back in Germany where they'd just escaped from, a hunger strike, death for some of the refugees, and injury for others. This is the story of the defiance and remarkable will of a group of people who had seen enough suffering in their lives. Living survivors have been interviewed for this book, and extensive research on survivor stories and official documentation of the time has been carried out by the author, in association with film producer Jill Samuels who provided the author with many firsthand testimonies. Exodus, taken from the name of the ship, is a powerful, historical document with a human story that will captivate and move.
