This review is a little spoilerish, so proceed with caution.
The Mistake was everything I was hoping for and it left me with a big smile on my face. John Logan is a hockey playing, smooth talking manwhore who has no problems getting women...well that was my first impression. As the story progresses we come to realise this is a very small part of the man. He has a heavy burden to carry that he doesn't share with his friends. His family life sucked. His father is an alcoholic incapable of looking after himself and the family mechanic business. His brother Jeff steps up to run things while John studies and plays hockey on the proviso that when he finishes college, he takes over and gives Jeff a break. As John comes to the end of college he sees the miserable future set out for him.
Grace is an intelligent and funny woman who doesn't have a lot of friends in her first year of college. Her longtime best friend and roommate Romona, had always been the wild one who helped Grace step out of her comfort zone. Grace's part in the friendship is to reign in some of Romona's wild antics. Unfortunately as time goes on, Grace realises they have grown apart. At the end of their freshman year Romana does something that fractures their friendship which leads Grace towards making some changes in her life.
Grace meets Logan after he has just been with a puck bunny, but Logan doesn't remember that encounter because he was drunk. They meet again the next night and Logan thinks he's meeting her for the first time. At this stage there is an attraction between the two, but Logan messes it up and doesn't realise his mistake until too late. This story has one of the best grovel storylines ever. I absolutely loved seeing the cocky man work towards getting his girl and adored Grace's determination to not be taken advantage of.
The true talent of this author is her ability to make me struggle to remember what the mistake was that put the hero in the bad books. By the end of this book I loved this couple together. I forgot Logan's manwhore ways and Grace's willingness to blindly follow in her friends footsteps. We see the couple grow strong together, but also confidence in themselves.
I started this book with high expectations and was luckily rewarded with another New Adult romance that left me satisfied. Elle Kennedy has once again proven her skills with the second book in this series and leaves me waiting in anticipation for Dean's story.

Logan is Garrett’s best friend and he’s got a thing for Garrett’s girlfriend, Hannah. He’s trying to get over it but Hannah is everything that Logan wants in a girl but now that she’s with Garrett, she’s off limits. Having them both around all the time is making it hard for Logan to get over his feelings for Hannah so he goes out a lot and he sleeps around and he does other stupid boy things that solve absolutely nothing. One night, he heads out to a party but discovers he’s got the wrong room number and no phone. So he asks the pretty girl that answers the door if he can use her phone and then just like that, Grace Ivers is introduced into Logan’s life.
Elle Kennedy delivers another entertaining read with a cast of characters that will worm their way into your heart and set up residence. Logan and Grace were fantastic together and I loved Logan’s determination to win Grace back after his big mistake. I loved that when Grace came back, she was all business. She wasn’t going to allow herself to hope for more with Logan and she was determined to move on from the mistakes of her freshman year in college. I love that she was strong and she was smart. I love that she didn’t immediately forgive those that wronged her. She was just a fun character to get to know. I completely saw what Logan saw in her. I got why he was so attracted to her. She was pretty awesome.
And then there was Logan. John freaking Logan. What a jackass. LOL. but I LOVED this jackass. I loved the way that he was with his boys. I loved the way that he stubbornly went about checking things off of Grace’s list. I loved his grand gestures and I really loved the scene where he finally found the red velvet chaise and the excitement he showed when he did. He was a good guy who did stupid things but who doesn’t do stupid things in college? I liked that when he realizes he was a jackass, he didn’t wait to fix things…he went about fixing them right away. I also loved that he never gave up on Grace…even when it looked like she gave up on him. The dogged determination that he showed about getting the girl made me all swoony. It was great.
Overall, this was a great read. A great addition to an already great series. I’m anxious for more from these characters and I can’t wait to see what Elle Kennedy has in store for Dean, the Sex Machine. That guy is all over the place with his sexy times. I hope we get to hear more about his stalker and I’m pretty damn anxious to find out who wins his heart. Is it Sabrina? Is it someone completely different? I’m also wondering if Ramona gets her own book because as pissed off as I was in this book with her and the way she treated Grace, I’m still curious about her.
Anyway, this was a great book and even though The Deal is still my favorite, I enjoyed this one too. Lots of good stuff in here and you won’t be sorry…so read it!

Enter a lovely little surprise review copy of The Mistake. Now, let me be clear, I LOVE Elle Kennedy. So, I figured I needed to give John Logan a chance. I really liked him in The Deal and I wanted to learn more about him. Boy, am I glad I did! I really enjoyed Logan and Grace's story. Logan really had to work for Grace's time and affection and I enjoyed the courting process that John (Logan) endured.
Logan and Grace meet completely by mistake and thus begins the relationship (of sorts) between them. Logan does not have much experience hanging out with girls on a friend level and he is also fighting his attraction to his best friend's girl. (So he has a lot on his mind.) Logan and Grace are immediately attracted to each other and they give into it off and on as they spend time together. Logan finally screws up royally where Grace is concerned and he spends the whole summer thinking about it and how he can get back into her life.
I appreciated this part of the book for several reasons. First, we get to see what his life is like away from school and hockey and he does not have an easy life. If anything, school and hockey is his escape from what is waiting for him after graduation. Heavy duty family responsibility awaits him. Dealing with his father and the fact that he will not be able to play hockey professionally. Grace spends some much needed time with her mother and she comes back from the summer with a better idea of who she is and what she wants.
Once they get back to school, Logan is determined to get Grace back and to her credit, Grace really makes Logan work for another chance with her and I LOVED the wooing he has to do to get another chance. Grace was a great character and I think she is the reason why I enjoyed this book more than the first book.
His mouth captures mine in a blistering kiss. Belonging. It's the only way to describe the exquisite rush of sensation that washes over me. Hsi lips belong on mine. Heat floods my core as his large hands cup my cheeks, thumbs stroking my jaw as he kisses me with a shocking contrast of tenderness and hunger. His tongue slicks over mine, one sweet stroke, then another, before his eases his mouth away.
"You called me Johnny," he says, his breath tickling my lips.
"Is that not allowed?" I tease.
His thumb softly grazes my bottom lip. "My friends call me John sometimes, but only my family calls me Johnny." His gaze burns with intensity.
"I liked it."
The Mistake was hilarious, sweet and sexy as all get out. (HELLO, JOHN LOGAN!!)
