Ellen lives alone with her nearly bed-ridden uncle. When the work becomes overwhelming, they hire a handyman, Rod, housing him in a camper in the yard. Rod is stepping out on his own for the first time in his pampered life, having lived the life of a rich man, but is now temporarily cut off from his father's wallet. He discovers Ellen's diary one day and reads it in secret during the following months. He is amazed over the various difficulties she faces, especially since she faces them with faith in God. Ellen and Rod are fictitious characters. The author, Sally Hull, wrote the first draft of Ellen's Tears during the days when she herself was her parents' caregiver. The words are from the trenches and are designed to help caregivers and those who love them. Ellen's Tears is written through diary entries as well as through a story line.
