This text aims to offer an up-to-date, illustrated and clearly written text, designed specifically for the Geography student at GCSE and Standard Grade. Following National Curriculum requirements, there are five sections covering the main ideas and issues of population distribution, population growth and movement, settlements, urbanization and further studies. These units present basic information in simple language accompanied by up-to-date statistics and explanations of major geographical terms. Case studies are drawn from both the developed and developing world, and each unit contains questions and activities designed to build up the student's response. The text is complemented by full colour and black and white photographs, diagrams, maps, OS maps and extracts from newspapers, magazines reports and other media. A simple cross-referencing system aims at encouraging students to see links between units and to follow thematic or regional structures throughout the book.
