The Boy on the Porch makes me think of a flair of August Rush and The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Suddenly there is a just a boy, a mute, unique, tapping musical boy, and the young couple (who owns that porch) lives are changed forever. Jacob is a special boy and it is through his existence that in the future many lives are changed. The chapters are short and sweet and interesting to really keep the pages turning. The end put tears in my eyes and a hitch in my throat.
As an early chapter book reader for the 8-12 set or a read aloud this one flows and works really well. Anyone should be recommended to read it, but especially foster families and foster children. All in all it's a beautiful story, a beautiful legacy.
