This work shows how easy it is to fall into the nationalist trap of attributing the special blessing of God to our own country. Drawing on case studies from around the world, it examines the way in which a false, spiritualized nationalism has infected the church, and considers the consequences on Britain and the USA. The Bible's teaching on the nature of the Christian Church is explored as the text argues that there is no need to suppress our different identities as British, American, Serb, German, and Afro-Caribbean, for example, because the faith that unites us is greater than the national or ethnic divisions that separate us.
