Caffeinated Aspects:
• I was immediately drawn into the story and curious about Cade. We get a brief glimpse of how he came to be immortal. Cade has some major guilt and struggles despite the fact that he is a leader. He comes of gruff but as the author peeled back, his layers I began to care for him. We also meet Emma an art teacher with a talented gift but she needs to believe in herself. I immediately liked Emma and found her to be brave, intelligent and quite capable of handling Cade.
• The suspense is intense, as Emma finds herself in danger from the Fallen. Fallen Redemption is your classic good vs.evil tale. The author provides perspectives from both the Fallen (evil) and Cade’s brotherhood. (good)
• I enjoyed the pace and quickly became caught up in the sotry. The author gave us moments with Emma and Cade, but also gave us equal time with the intense action scenes.
• The supernatural creatures and their missions/battles/cause intrigued me. We briefly meet secondary characters, and while they were not fleshed out, we learned enough to have me curious.
• The romance felt real, and while it could be perceived as insta-love, the author allows it to grow and develop into something deeper making it feel genuine.
• I consumed Fallen Redmeption in two sittings, and despite issues mentioned below found myself fully engaged.
Decaffeinated Aspects:
• While the author provides an index of technical terms for her characters, the world building was not detailed enough. It kept the pace intense, and while I had a basic understanding of the battle, who they were and where they came from I needed back-story.
• The ending was a little too open, and it left me a little frustrated. While the book is part of a series and the answers will come, it seemed to cut off entirely too soon.
• At times, scenes were confusing. Moments with the Fallen were not detailed enough, leaving me to scratch my head and I found myself going back thinking I had missed something.
Despite wanted more details regarding the world and these supernatural creatures, I found Fallen Redemption to be an engaging read and plan to read the next book in the series.
