OK, honestly? This book was a bit weird for me. It was well written, and I did enjoy it enough that I am going to rate it 4-Stars. However, it felt like an incomplete story. Almost like the entire point of the book was maybe just to give us some insight into Carter from the Merciless series. Which would have been fine if Chloe's and Sebastian's story had been more fleshed out. I felt like I was missing huge chunks of their history, which made it hard for me to connect with them as a couple. On top of that, the ending was also left a little unfinished. So perhaps we are going to see this couple in future books?
That being said, it wasn't a bad book either. Like I mentioned the writing was excellent. This author is fantastic at writing emotional stories that grip the reader right from the start, and this book was steeped in emotion and pain. It is a relatively short book, so the pace was quite quick. There wasn't any OW or OM drama. The hero wasn't a manwhore. The heroine (unfortunately) was a virgin. We get a couple of good sex scenes. The secondary characters (mainly Carter) were interesting, and the two main characters were likable for the most part.
So yea, as I said above, it was a bit of an odd read. And as much as I enjoyed it, I still think it could have been much better had the author fleshed out the story more. In any case, I am still going to go ahead and recommend it. Especially if you have been reading the Merciless series as the little extra info about Carter makes a welcome addition.
