This book of more than 96 colour photographs by Barry Broman, documents the past and the present of little known Myanmar. From temples almost 1000 years old, handicrafts which have changed little over the centuries, statues of Buddha that are at once massive, serene and in at least one case, wearing spectacles, Myanmar is a photographer's delight. For the armchair traveller, or the visitor wanting a keepsake, Broman has selected images which illustrate the country's history through its architecture and those which show us contemporary life and commerce. Perhaps all that has changed are the motor vehicles on the streets and the telephones safely hidden in pockets and handbags.
