A set of six 15th-century tapestries, housed in the Musee de Cluny in Paris, is depicted in this book. Based on the two complementary colours blue and red, it represents a mysterious woman performing a series of graceful and distinctive gestures in six different situations, in association with a creature that has been part of animal mythology for thousands of years. Animals and flowers, standards, banners and coats of arms form a backdrop to the central figures. The hangings were sold to the Musee de Cluny in 1882 and have remained there since then. Restored in the 1940's, they were then hung in isolation, in a circular hall specially designed to display and preserve them. This book reproduces the tapestries in their entirety and in enlarged details.
