Something or someone has started the Apocalypse without permission. So things have gone to shit. Fast. A series of events lead Lune and Dr. Morgan Stirling to work together, and they have an instant attraction. In my opinion it seemed a little forced in the beginning. Did I still want them to get it on? Hell yes. And when there is physical interaction (it happens more than once!!) it is done well. As the story progressed, I was really rooting for them. And they have a TON of obstacles to overcome. There are times you think "Finally, they've made it!" then boom. Shit hits the fan. Again. It is all very exciting!
There is some kink and gore that some may find unappealing, especially because of the 'people' participating in it (ie angels) but I thought it appropriate. These aren't your weeping grandmother's angels, they have vices. And for the most part they are not ashamed of them.
For a book that takes place over less than 2 days, parts of it seemed to drag. I can't put my finger on it, because the sex was good, the action was intense, but I felt something missing. Maybe I didn't get to know the characters as much as I would have liked; I'm not sure. Maybe it was the fact it seemed like "shock factor" was used several times - I laughed a little the third time I read about someone's eyeball melting down their face. It's kind of gross, but what can I say? I am a bit demented.
Will I read the next book? You betcha. And I am looking forward to it. And I bet I will enjoy it even more, now that I know the world and have a grasp on the characters. 3.5 stars - a good solid read
