Peter Walker and Partners (PWP) was formed in 1983. Their projects, executed worldwide, vary both in scale and type: urban design and planning, corporate headquarters and university campuses, parks, plazas and gardens. Exploring the relationships between art, culture and context, Peter Walker re-forms the landscape - whether urban or natural - and challenges traditional concepts of design. This book features the company's work from the last seven years, all of which brilliantly showcases the firm's range. It includes sixteen built projects in Europe, Asia and the United States - parks, corporate headquarters, foundations, museums and urban plazas; seven works in progress, including the American Embassy in Beijing and the World Trade Center Memorial in New York City; and ten site planning and urban-design projects, among them millennium parklands in Sydney, Australia and Novartis Headquarters in Basel, Switzerland. The book opens with a short essay about the organization and philosophy of the office, the partners and associates, and the particular way that PWP practises the craft of landscape architecture.
It concludes with four competitions, including one for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
