In human beings these qualities belong to the soul and are chased by the ever-changing self, which is like the soul's shadow companion. Enlightenment is the result of synchrony between the self (which is a conditioned consciousness) and the soul (which is pure consciousness), reflecting the light and qualities of the supreme consciousness, or God.
