John Himmelfarb's print oeuvre, much like his paintings and drawings, can be separated roughly into a half dozen succinct, but sometimes related, bodies of work: Landscapes and Cityscapes, Individuals and Groups, Grid Works, Letterform Works, Maps and Bridges, and Narrative Puzzle Pieces. They are for the most part enduring journeys and explorations that continually lead to new discoveries. For nearly forty years, Himmelfarb's work has challenged the viewer to absorb the variety of colour, line, form and content while still perceiving references ranging from expressionist to modernist, literary to musical. Whether jazz notes or Dick Tracy, natural forms or Asian calligraphic characters, the art of Himmelfarb continues to delight and intrigue all who come to view this Chicago-based artist's work. Himmelfarb's art is included in major museum collections in the United States and Europe with public art projects in Omaha, Chicago, and Boston.
