The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the capital of the European Union, is well-known as an international financial centre, and its growth in importance and affluence is increasingly reflected in high-quality architecture. With the recent opening of the Philharmonie by Christian de Portzamparc and the Museum of Contemporary Art by I. M. Pei, Luxembourg has impressively proven that the city is serious about its ambition to become an significant cultural city and an important European city for contemporary architecture. At present, four more high-quality projects are on the way to completion the new construction of the European Courthouse, the European Investment Bank, the extension of Parliament and the National Library in the immediate vicinity.
