Devon was one of those characters that you could tell was fighting something powerful, but was determined to do it on her own. She left St. Louis, telling a different story to her family and her boyfriend, and headed towards her best friend in Chicago. But when she gets to Chicago, she finds that what she was running from is still following her.
Battling her own demons, Devon finds her best friend, Hadley is also fighting her own, which causes Devon to find herself without her best friend. Her one bright point was Brennan. He reminded Devon of her worth as a person and a woman, helping her get over some of her emotional scars.
This was a challenging read, dealing with domestic violence and addiction. K. A. Linde created characters that were wonderfully flawed and connected with the reader, making us hungry from Devon to fight for her happily ever after. In the end, the journey was worth it and one I encourage other to take.
