AGES: 8-12 AUTHOR: Susan Hughes is a writer and editor, and has been writing children's books and articles for nearly 20 years. Susan has always loved writing. When she was in grade five and six, she and several friends had a writing club. "We'd gather with our most recent poems and stories and read them aloud to one another. We always tried to say one thing that was positive, along with a more critical but constructive comment." Also, crazy about horses, she and a good friend, Barb, began writing and "publishing" a magazine about horses and horseback riding. "We sold The Saddle and Bridle Club magazine to our friends for five cents an issue!" Michael Wandelmaier grew up in Ottawa, Ontario, in a family of science geeks with artistic temperaments. His years at Queen's University in Kingston were spent diligently neglecting his courses in civil engineering and geology in favor of leisure and drawing cartoons for the school paper. After graduation, he moved to Toronto to pursue a career in graphic design and illustration. He is currently a designer at a Toronto advertising agency and an illustrator whenever possible.
