History, adventure and escape collide with the 1960s in Runaway Brain. Hitchhiking adventures take Richard Keith to Haight-Ashbury, the Apollo One fire, White House demonstrations, a Pentagon peace march and non-civil riots in Watts, Newark and Washington. His odyssey is terminated when the U.S. Marines invite him to join their Corps. He runs from them following the massacre at Kent State two days after his twenty-first birthday. His loves for Virginia and America bring him home. Colorful road characters provide an education for Richard as he hitchhikes around the country seeking shelter. Though the journey is framed by the rhythms of the 1960s, Richard's bittersweet tale of maturity is timeless. Runaway Brain is kind of like Forrest Gump goes On The Road while reading Kurt Vonnegut.
