This read was part of a book club.

I liked both characters but I did not like the deception aspect of the hero. I know that is a popular trope in romance, but it's not my thing. I feel everyone blows it out of proportion and it leads to all kinds of behaviors that give me anxiety.

But it was well-written and I will def. read more from this author.

Another Claire Contreras book that was hard to put down. Warren Silva and his slight British accent were hard to resist. And like everyone one, I found myself forgiving his transgressions and hoping he'd find his HEA.

I love Sports Romances! When I found out that one of my fave authors was writing a Sport Romance, I went crazy! I have to say this book is completely out of the norm for her, at least comparing it to her Hearts series. Where that series is full of feels and lots of emotions, The Player is fun, sexy yet sweet and a quick read.

"I'd give up my career to chase moments with the right woman."

Ever since Warren left to England when he was fourteen years old to play football, he hasn't seen his father. Now, he's a professional football player but he puts it on hold so he can be with his family in New York. While at a business meeting, he meets someone who has lots to say and he can't help but be intrigued by her. Camila notices Warren but she knows she should stay away. It's not something easy to do when Warren wants to see her all the time and get to know her. Camila has trust issues so she keeps herself guarded, but Warren is different than what he looks he should act. Someone like him should be a snob, arrogant and wouldn't be seen with someone from Washington Heights, yet he's nothing like that. Camila is officially interested but she knows they both belong in different worlds and she isn't sure if she should take the risk.

He was definitely not the kind of man I'd normally find attractive, but something about him held me captive.

I love Warren Silva. His personality took my breath away. Like Camila, I thought he would be a snob but it wasn't the case at all. Yes, he's cocky, kind of possessive, determined, self-assured and knows he can have any woman he wants. When Camila turns him down, he's completely intrigued by her. The thing is, Warren is used to women who want something from him or love all the luxuries he has. Camila was fine with the little she had. Her apartment was very tiny, she worked at a non-profit organization, she was a very giving person and didn't care much for luxuries. I really liked Camila a lot. She's so strong, independent and with a heart of gold. I knew she would be a great woman for Warren. I think the real turning point for Warren full on liking Camila was when she gave him a chance and they went on their first date. She proved just how different she was and how the little things could make her happy. I was rooting for the two of them!

Did she turn me down? Did I let her? This couldn't be. I definitely wasn't just going to let it end here. I'd been mildly curious before, but now Camila had my full attention.

Warren also has a soft side that starts to come out when he's with Camila. While being with Camila, he realizes that money and luxuries aren't everything. It's the people in your life that make your life even better and make you want to be a better person for them and for yourself.

She wasn't my New York Girl. She was my game changer.

Overall, The Player is a fun-filled story with strong and independent characters. I didn't want to put it down at all!This review was originally posted on Latte Nights Reviews.
