Dexy's Midnight Runners were one of the best-loved bands of the 1980s, and this book tells the story of their career in the words of Kevin Rowland and the other members of the band. It reveals the story of how the band scaled the heights of the charts on both sides of the Atlantic, received critical acclaim, sold millions of albums and yet always had a core lifestyle of furious infighting, chaos and despair. Driven by the unswerving invention and creative edge of song-writing genius and soul stylist Kevin Rowland, Dexy's burst onto the post-punk scene with a genre-defying approach which set them apart from the 60s influences displayed by both the hot two-tone bands and the prevalent New Romantic movement. They were different, they were original and they somehow conspired to be both fiery and cool, with their distinctive "docker chic" outfits of woolly hats, donkey jackets and bowling bags. They left a legacy of great singles: "Geno", "Show Me", "Come On Eileen" and "Jackie Wilson Said" as well as the seminal albums "Searching For the Young Soul Rebels" and "Too-Rye-Aye".
In 2003, Dexy's Midnight Runners return with a reunion tour and a greatest hits package complete with newly recorded tracks.
