The Remains is an enjoyable suspense tale even though it is not particularly original or remarkable. Zandri sets the scene and introduces the charaters in a way that is succinct and evocative. The mystery builds from the first few chapters as the reader tries to understand what happened to Rebecca and Molly thirty years ago while guessing at what is going to happen next. The enigmatic character of Francis and his eerie artwork is a very nice touch and the climax is intense and well-written.
