This survey provides an up-to-date picture of Britain's population in the 1990s. Based on material compiled from the results of the 1991 Population Census, it is arranged in a series of double-page spreads, with one page devoted to maps and the facing page containing explanatory text with supporting tables and diagrams. The majority of the maps cover the whole of Great Britain, but use a variety of scales (region, county, district, and housing market areas) according to the subject under discussion. The primary focus is on those aspects of the human geography of Britain which have changed most in recent years, and/or constitute key issues for policy-makers in government and the private sector. The subjects covered include population change, age structure, household composition, ethnic group, employment and unemployment, housing, health, education, and welfare.
