College freshman Kazuki Sendoh failed to get into the arts college he was hoping for, but assures his worried friend Mizuki Takase that he can do what he wants to do, draw, even without getting into there. A mutual friend, Taishi Kuhonbutsu, calls them out to attend a Doujinshi Exhibition, or 'Comic Party' (a.k.a. 'ComiPa'). Doujinshi are self-published manga that can be stories/parodies based off of famous manga, anime, and movies, or can be original works. Separated from his friends in the crowd, Kazuki first meets Yuu Inagawa, long-haired, glasses-wearing head of the doujinshi 'circle' (or group) 'Karamitei' ('Spicy Restaurant' is a possible translation), who's also a spunky artist from Kansai. Yuu ends up in a fight with rude customers, a fight Kazuki tries to break up before a member of the Comic Party staff, Minami Makimura, shows up. Still looking for his friends, Kazuki encounters the innocent, clumsy girl Chisa, who has lost control of the cart she was pushing. Chisa thanks Kazuki as 'oniisan' (big brother) and runs off, only to crash again.
Next, Kazuki reunites with Yuu, who is picking a fight with the egotistical doujinshi author Eimi Ohba, who runs studio 'Cat or Fish' which sold out all 5000 copies in the morning. Kazuki finally finds Taishi, only to be asked by Taishi to draw doujinshi with him as a step to world conquest. Kazuki thinks about it, ends up agreeing, and the circle 'Brother 2' is born. Afterwards, Mizuki gets upset at Kazuki skipping classes to do such a childish thing as drawing manga and refuses to acknowledge his new hobby. Kazuki still starts drawing manga with Taishi's support, however, and Kazuki has a doujinshi ready for the next month's Comic Party. Coincidentally, Chisa, the girl he met at the prior Comic Party, works in the print shop he has it printed at. Now with a booth at Comic Party, Brother 2 (though mainly Taishi) promotes their first work, being checked out first by Comic Party Staff member Minami, who knows Taishi. Mizuki stops by the convention and despite her disguise is noticed by Taishi, who has her read Kazuki's manga and then help out at the booth.
Kazuki, meanwhile, stops by another booth with an original doujinshi 'The Sun and the Moon,' which he really enjoys, written by a shy girl who claims no one has bought from her in a long time. Before catching her name though, Kazuki has to run off to stop a fight near his booth, which turns out to be once again between Yuu and Eimi. After the fight is broken up, Yuu reveals to Kazuki that she enjoyed his doujinshi and offers for their circles to pair up for the next Comic Party. Preparing for the next Comic Party, Kazuki goes around with Yuu buying art supplies and even stays overnight in her hotel room working on manga, making Mizuki really jealous. After finishing their own works for the month, they decide to work together on one doujinshi at the last second. The copies Yuu makes on her own however end up getting soaked in a downpour, and Yuu has to steal Eimi's personal copier in order to get copies made to sell. When she succeeds, however, the books sell like hotcakes. As the day ends, Yuu offers Kazuki to pair up again anytime.
