Initial Thoughts

I had fairly high expectations for this book even though I was a little confused throughout the series. All that religious sort of stuff that was going on was a little confusing for me to really grasp. I hoped that this book would be a little easier to follow!

My New BFF

Ana gets a lot better in this book. I even start to look up to her. She’s still pretty stupid at times but she ends up being very smart and brave. All she wants is to stop Janan and save her friends. She could care less about anything else. I was a little disappointed with her and Sam though. I thought they were better than what went on with them. It made some seems a little awkward.

My Crush

Can I pick the sylph? No? Then I pick Cris. I wish he had more of a purpose in the book because his character was so great. I’m very disappointed with that. But I like how we got to learn more about the sylph because of him. That was really cool.

Writing Style

There was a lot of repetitiveness in this book. I think I might have just made that word up but you get my point. I found a lot of parts were boring because there was A LOT of explaining and just straight up dialogue. There just wasn’t enough action for a final book.

Closing Thoughts

The ending was a little too perfect to me. It was an easy flaw to ignore though since you always hope that everyone will live happily ever after. I just expected a little more. It took me around 100 pages to really get into the book. I was a little bored because nobody had any idea what they were doing. Even the author seemed lost. Once the characters kind of figured out a plan it got better.

I am so sad that this series is over! It has one of the most unique and intriguing worlds, and I could not get enough of it, especially in Infinite! Ana and Sam are preparing for her exile when an earthquake hits. They know it's not just a normal seismic event; it's a sign of Janan's imminent ascension. They've got to get out of Heart, but not without their friends or without a plan. Ana is going to leave Heart, as she was ordered to, but she's coming back with a way to end Janan and the reincarnation for good. But first, she needs a little help from her slyph friends, and some time to translate the history books which may contain some clues.

The continued world building was easily my favorite aspect of Infinite. Ana pieces together a lot of the history of Heart from her previous experience in the tower and what she can decipher from the books she has. It's all so interesting! I loved learning more about how this society came to be, and when it is. There are a lot of interesting surprises, although Ana's friends, including Sam, aren't too happy to hear everything she has to say. Then she discovers the dragons! The dragons are awesome, and wind up playing a pivotal role in the destruction of Janan and his tower.

I really don't want to give anything away about Infinite. It's a great conclusion to this series, but I wanted more! The answer to everything seemed too simple and convenient. Like, it all just magically came together. Literally. But it fit, and that last page made me very happy! I could have enjoyed at least two or three more books set in this world, following Ana and Sam being adorable and doing science! I shall miss them!

Eh. This is one of those books that probably isn't as bad as this review will make it sound. I just didn't like much about it. I didn't dislike a whole lot either so a bland 3 stars seems pretty appropriate.

I like Sam and Ana and I feel like their story could have fit very nicely in one book or maybe two and I would have liked it a lot better.
I liked the idea of immortality Jodi Meadows is dealing with and how she really carried through and developed the idea of oldsouls.

I wasn't a big fan of the writing. It's trying to be descriptive but it isn't evocative. And it feels very told instead of being immersive or emotional. I think that's my biggest thing - the story feels largely told. Also she used the word 'sneaked' and another awkward past tense word somewhere else.

I think the overall thing was I just wasn't engaged by this story. Or by these characters. I think I liked Ana better in this book because she wasn't painfully naive. But I also think I liked Sam less because he had less to do and his interactions with Ana are different and either kind of 'I love you madly' or they just weren't talking to each other. There didn't seem to be much else going on. And all the secondary characters (except the sylph) seemed pretty flat.

I'm sure tomorrow I'll remember a moment or something I particularly liked. I have to give Jodi Meadows credit though because it is a really unique concept and certain elements and themes she really does carry through well. Two books focusing on the Sam and Ana parts, though, would have been pretty cool.

I really liked this one! It was my favorite of all 3, and I really like the way this series ended.
