The dramatic rise of traffic on UK roads in the past few years has placed increased demands on pavement structure, leading to a growing interest in the development, use and specification of improved materials. The binder has an important role to play in the performance of rolled asphalt, and the use of polymer binders to improve the performance of bituminous materials is increasingly popular. This report investigates the effects of modifiers on binder properties, measured using the new generation of rheometers. It discusses the relationships between the empirical and dynamic binder properties.
